QDP Trenchless commenced operations in September 1996 with the purchase of a small Ditch Witch JT911 Directional Boring unit to service local Utility Providers outsourcing initiatives. Over subsequent years our expertise, resources and capabilities grew considerably in line with North Queensland’s rapidly expanding economy, population growth and energy / infrastructure demands from what began as a small 2-man operation to become a local industry leader today employing 20 staff and maintains a modern fleet valued in excess of $10M.
To meet growing demands upon our services and in particular, major conduit / pipe route construction, in 2010 QDP acquired the American Auger DD6 & MCM 2000 Directional Boring / Fluids Recycling HDD (Horizontal Directional Boring) system. This 60,000lb machine was at that time unique to this region and the largest of its kind capable of undertaking a single bore up to 350m in length and diameter of 1000mm in OTR (<750mm in Rock). After ten years of exceptional service undertaking some of the largest and most complex HDD (Horizontal Directional Boring) installations in our region this machine is soon to be replaced with the even more formidable Vermeer D100x140 S3 Navigator (100,000lb) to further enhance and expand our major pipeline capabilities. Over the past 18months we have also added (3) three new Vermeer Directional Drills to our fleet which include the D20x22, D23x30 & D40x55 S3 Navigators. Our expansion into guided boring / micro-tunnelling was a natural progression brought about by existing clients changing attitudes towards the use of HDD (Horizontal Directional Boring) for large diameter trenchless installations under major roads and rail corridors (Unsupported construction method) and consequently a growing demand for RCP (reinforced concrete pipes) pipe jacking (Supported construction method) installed to fine grade tolerances. The Bohrtec BM600-LSC Guided Boring System, the first of its kind in Australia, represents the very best in German design and engineering. This unique, latching frame style tunnelling platform is capable of jacking <1280mm RCP pipe up to 120m from a 7m launch shaft with an accuracy of +/- 10mm. This acquisition is underpinned with the full support, comprehensive training and backing of Bohrtec / Herrenknecht Tunnelling Systems (Germany) positioning QDP Trenchless as the first guided boring / micro-tunnelling specialist based in North Queensland. The Queensland Country Bank Stadium is a 25,000 seat best practise multi-purpose regional stadium that was officially opened in February 2020. Our project involved the construction of approximately 2klms of underground HV conduit route linking Ergon Energy’s Mcilwraith St Substation to the stadium site.
